Polyurethane potting is a key material used to protect electronic components and is widely used in various types of electronic equipment. Its unique chemical properties and physical properties make it one of the indispensable materials in the electronics industry. The following is a detailed introduction to polyurethane potting:
1.Definition of polyurethane potting
Polyurethane potting material is a high molecular polymer formed through chemical reactions. It is produced by the reaction of isocyanates and polyols and has excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability. Polyurethane potting materials are usually used in liquid form and are applied to the surface of electronic components by pouring or spraying to form a strong and protective shell.
2.Characteristics of polyurethane potting
Excellent protective performance: Polyurethane potting materials have excellent waterproof, dustproof and anti-corrosion properties, which can effectively protect electronic components from environmental factors.
Good electrical insulation: Polyurethane materials have good electrical insulation properties, which can prevent electrical short circuits and leakage, and improve the safety of electronic equipment.
Superior mechanical properties: Polyurethane potting materials have high strength and elasticity, can withstand mechanical stress and vibration, and protect electronic components from physical damage.
High and low temperature resistance: Polyurethane materials maintain stable performance over a wide temperature range and are suitable for various extreme environments.
Good adhesion: Polyurethane potting materials can firmly adhere to a variety of substrate surfaces, such as metal, plastic and glass, providing reliable sealing and protection.
3.Application areas of polyurethane potting
Automotive electronics: used to potting vehicle control modules, sensors and motor components, providing waterproof, shockproof and temperature-resistant protection.
Power electronics: widely used in transformers, power modules and switchgear to ensure stable operation in harsh environments.
Communication equipment: used to protect base station equipment, antennas and receivers to prevent environmental factors from affecting their performance.
Household appliances: used in power tools, household appliances and lighting equipment to provide safety protection and extend service life.
Industrial control: widely used in industrial control systems, sensors and instrumentation to improve their durability and reliability.
4.How to use polyurethane potting
Take PUR 6608 A/B high thermal conductivity potting glue as an example:
Usage steps:
3. Preheating: Please bake the cast device at 70~80℃ for 1 hour. You can also lower the temperature and extend the heating time to remove moisture from the device. PUR 6608 will have higher viscosity at low temperatures. The material can be preheated to 25℃~45℃ for easy use.
4. Degassing: Vacuum the A\B barrels separately and stir at the same time to ensure that the A\B glue is vacuumed and free of bubbles before mixing.
5. Pouring: Pour the mixture into the device through a static mixer. The gel time is about 60mins.
6. Curing: 25℃/8-12hrs, it takes 24 hours to fully cure. The ambient humidity should be controlled at <70%, and the curing time should be extended as appropriate if the temperature is low.
Polyurethane potting materials play an important role in the protection of electronic components with their superior performance and wide application fields. Whether it is automotive electronics, power electronics or communication equipment, polyurethane potting materials can provide reliable protection and support.
